Sydney’s Post-Grad Petals

Lorrae (no idea if I spelled her name right) called us to make a cake. Which is a compliment in itself, because she makes delicious, beautiful cakes. She just didn’t have the time to make one for this particular occasion. A very close friend of hers, Sydney, had graduated high school early and was having a grad party, and Lorrae (again, I’m sorry about the spelling) was very involved in the decorating/organizing process.

Sydney had a rustic chic theme going on, with burlap, mason jars, twinkle lights, all that good stuff. Lorrae had perused Our Cake Galleryย and likedย Michelle’s Burlap & Buttercream, as it followed that same theme. She didn’t need a cake quite so big and I had mentioned that I had seen burlap flowers at Michael’s in a couple different shades, so we went from there. She trusted us to do the rest.

Unfortunately, Mom had a previous engagement, so was leaving me alone again! So I called in reinforcements, in the form of Toby & Hunter (I love my boys!), to help me bake this one. Mom very kindly made the Salted Caramel for the filling before she left, so I didn’t have to worry about learning how to make that. ๐Ÿ™‚ We baked Vanilla Bean Pound Cake and filled it with Vanilla Bean Buttercream and Salted Caramel. We’ve been told that this combination is heavenly, cake you would eat in paradise, and downright delicious! We agree. This flavour combination is killer!

When it came to decorating, it was going to be very simple, but I wanted to try out a new petal piping technique(inspired by the burlap flowers), and I didn’t think Lorrae would mind. It turned out pretty cute, and while we were heading to the party to deliver it, it was all I could do to keep from dipping my finger in the buttercream. It smelled and looked so good!

Now, I did fail in one respect with this cake. I didn’t get proper pictures of it. I apologize, but you can still see the details. (Just pretend you were at the party ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) Our cake joined a spread of delicious food, in a beautiful atmosphere, with great music and friends.

Amanda’s Fuchsia Flourishes

Trevor and Amanda had a picture picked out of what they wanted their wedding cake to look like… it was even in the right colour! The cake was Almond Marble Pound Cake with Almond Buttercream throughout. It was then piped with fuchsia buttercream, highlighted with fuchsia gum paste leaves and highlighted with orange and yellow buttercream.

We were so pleased when we delivered the cake and the colours matched the decor and flowers.
