Brittany’s Shades of Purple

Brittany and Garrett(such a sweet couple!) had checked out our website and had picked a few favourites. Their wedding colour was eggplant, so this cake stood out, as we had made a similar one before with purple ribbons at the base of each tier. Garrett preferred to have the entire cake edible, so we added a piped detail instead of ribbon. As the flowers in the topper were in shades of deep purple, we piped beads in three shades of purple buttercream to give an ombre effect.

The cake was Vanilla and Chocolate Marble Pound, filled with Vanilla Bean Buttercream, covered with our homemade marshmallow fondant, and stenciled with royal icing. The white on white of the stencilling is a very elegant look, and looks striking paired with the deep purple tones.

Megan’s Antique Books

Megan and Todd came for their tasting without really knowing how they wanted their cake to look. When we asked them what their decorations were going to be, they told us that they were using stacks of antique books for their centrepieces. (Sweet story behind that dating back to their first date.) So it was promptly suggested that we replicate a stack of antique books for their cake. Todd and Megan both really liked that idea. So we left the book titles up to them (love the choices they made!), and they left the rest up to us. The only request was that we use shades of blue and green to coordinate with their wedding colours.

Todd and Megan chose Vanilla Bean Pound Cake filled with Vanilla Bean Buttercream and Salted Caramel for all the tiers(so delicious!). We then covered each tier with tinted fondant, and dusted them with petal dust. The books were finished off with hand painted titles (not stencilled) which took a lot of time and patience, but really paid off in the end. This is one of our favourite cakes to date!

40th Anniversary Cake

So, our first cake this summer was a 40th anniversary cake for friends of ours, Blair and Linda. Happy Anniversary, you two! We love you! ­čÖé

Since it was their Ruby anniversary, we went with four tiers(for forty years) and decorated with white and red. We had this beautiful, wide damask ribbon in a ruby shade, so we opted to cover our tallest tier with that and incorporated a large flower accented by mini blossoms to keep with a romantic theme.

The bottom square tier was our Decadent Chocolate, filled with Chocolate Ganache (my wedding cake…yum!) and frosted with Almond Buttercream. So delicious! The next tier was Almond Pound Cake with Almond Buttercream, and the top two tiers were Decadent Chocolate with Vanilla Bean Buttercream. All in all, an extremely yummy cake!
